PROYECTO FINAL CURSO RECURSOS MULTIMEDIA
SAINT PATRICK’S DAY
El 17 de Marzo se celebra el día del patrón de Irlanda en muchas ciudades alrededor del mundo, una costumbre originalmente Irlandesa pero que se ha extendido a otros continentes. Esta actividad estaría dirigida a alumnos de nivel Intermedio 1 de la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas.
OBJETIVOS
- Familiarizar al alumno con esta festividad originalmente irlandesa y diversos iconos irlandeses.
- Promover el entendimiento entre diferentes culturas.
- Adquirir estrategias para la comprensión lectora y oral.
- Adquisición de vocabulario relacionado con Irlanda.

RECURSOS TIC
El vídeo-presentación se ha realizado utilizando Windows Live Moviemaker con imágenes bajadas de la red con la ayuda de Flickr.
Es necesario un cañón para proyectar el vídeo así como unos altavoces para poder escuchar el audio.
ACTIVIDADES A REALIZAR POR LOS ALUMNOS/TEMPORALIZACIÓN
Se le entregará a los alumnos un texto con información sobre el patrón de Irlanda, Saint Patrick, y las diferentes costumbres existentes a la hora de celebrar su día alrededor del mundo. El texto contiene huecos que los alumnos intentarán completar con palabras de una lista que se les proporciona. Una vez completado los alumnos verán el video-presentación con imágenes y audio para comprobar si las palabras que han utilizado son correctas. Si no han conseguido completar todos los huecos podrán hacerlo al escuchar el audio. La presentación servirá también como punto de partida para explicar los iconos irlandeses más representativos (Por ej. shamrock, tricolour flag, leprechaun, colour green…), así como a incitar al alumno a compartir su posible experiencia de esta fiesta, en España, o el extranjero.

Because of the terrible conditions in Ireland during the 1800s many Irish went to America, so the Irish community in the United States is very big. They went to live all over the country and took their __________(1) with them. There are also many Irish in Britain and all over the world. Who was St Patrick? St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He was probably born in Wales, about AD389: his father was a Christian. When Patrick was sixteen years old some pirates took him to Ireland, where he became a __________(2). After six years he escaped to France. He became a __________(3) there. He returned to Ireland as a bishop in about 432. He converted a lot of Irish people to Christianity, and he introduced the __________(4) to Ireland. He wrote his autobiography in __________(5) about his life and work in Ireland. He died in about 461. There are legends about St Patrick. One legend says he took all the ___________(6) in Ireland in the top of a mountain and pushed them into the sea. Another legend says he used the __________(7) to teach the Irish about Christianity: he used the three leaves of this plant to explain that for Christians God is three beings at the same time. Celebrating St Patrick’s Day In Ireland St Patrick Day is an important __________(8) holiday. Businesses are closed and people go to church. In 1995 the Irish government started the St Patrick’s Day Festival, a four-day festival in the capital city, Dublin. On St Patrick’s Day there are a lot of __________(9) flags in the streets. Irish people created this flag in 1848 with a special meaning. The ____________(10) represents the Irish Catholics (mostly from the South of Ireland) and the ____________(11) represents Irish Protestants (mostly from the north of Ireland). The white rectangle in the middle represents the hope for peace between Catholics and Protestants. In the United States, the first celebration of St Patrick’s Day was in Boston in 1737. Today on 17th March the Irish community in America organizes __________(12) with marching bands and Irish music in many towns and cities. The parade in New York City is the biggest in the world: more than 150,000 people take part in the marching. And in the city of Chicago, the Chicago river is __________(13) green on St Patrick’s Day! The Irish believe that green is a lucky colour, and a lot of people wear green clothes on St Patrick’s Day.
